"I can write a poem and read it to my friends or pass it around to my friends. But I write a poem to publish the poem, even if I don’t publish very much. I don’t write it thinking of my friends, or thinking only of the words and the concepts of the poem. I think of the words and the concepts of the poem as a poem to be published in the poetry world, in a world where there are people who like to read poems in English.
